Academy: The Two Faces of Digital Design
The most critical concept in print design is the difference between Vector vs Raster.
| Property | Vector (SVG, PDF) | Raster (JPG, PNG) |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | Mathematical formulas (Lines) | Pixel grid (Dots) |
| Scaling | Infinitely scalable, no degradation | Becomes blocky when enlarged (Pixelates) |
| Sharp edges, crisp text | Blurry edges | |
| Use Case | Logo, Text, Shape | Photography |
Why Vector for Print?
If you upload your logo as a photo (JPG), the edges will appear jagged in print. If you upload it in SVG format, it will be razor-sharp even at billboard size. That is why NowToPrint Studio always keeps text and shapes in vector form.
The RGB and CMYK Reality
- RGB (Screen): Works with light. Neon colours (lime green, bright cyan) are possible.
- CMYK (Print): Works with ink. Bright neon colours on screen will appear more muted/flat on paper. Our studio shows you a "Print Simulation" on screen to prevent disappointment.
