What to do, in order, after Edge Hub is installed: pairing, the diagnostics check, and your first file check. The goal is to get from install to first report in 15 minutes.
Your first 15 minutes
This page walks through what to do straight after Edge Hub is installed. The goal is to see a first real result without getting lost in menus. If you have not installed it yet, start with the setup guide.
What to have ready
A representative production PDF (ideally one that caused trouble recently — a real file teaches more than a sample), your NowToPrint panel login, and the IP address of your print server if you have one.
Minute 0–3: Pairing
Open Edge Hub
After installation the application opens on the pairing screen.
Read the code on screen
A short, single-use code appears. Note it down.
Approve it in the panel
In your browser, open the NowToPrint panel: My print shop → Settings → Equipment → Pair Edge Hub. Enter the code and approve it.
Leave Edge Hub open after approval
Once approved, the code is valid for 10 minutes, and Edge Hub must be open and online during that window — the pairing completes at that moment. If you closed the application, open it and start pairing again.
When pairing succeeds, the device appears by name in the equipment list in the panel. If it does not, see the pairing section in troubleshooting.
Minute 3–5: Read the diagnostics screen
The Diagnostics screen in Edge Hub is the single answer to "is everything in place?". It shows a few more lines; these are the ones to read day to day:

If one of these shows an error, resolve it before going on; the next steps build on them.
Minute 5–10: Your first file check
This is where the first real value shows up: checking a PDF before it goes to press.
Open the PDF Tools screen
The prepress screen in Edge Hub is enabled per installation. If you do not see it in the menu, tell the person who ran the installation with you — it will be enabled for your pilot installation. While you wait, you can run the same check in the browser: NowToPrint preflight.
Select the file
Open the file with the application's own file picker. The file does not leave your machine; the check runs locally.
Read the report
Findings come in three groups: blocking (cannot be printed as-is), warning (risky, but the call is yours), and information. Read the blocking ones first.
Fix what can be fixed
Only fixes that do not damage the file are applied. Your source PDF is never silently overwritten; the output is a separate file.
In a first report you typically meet: no bleed, fonts not embedded, RGB colour space, high total ink coverage, mixed page sizes. What each of these means is explained in prepress basics.
Minute 10–15: Connect it to your own workflow
If you got this far, Edge Hub is working. Now wire it into daily production:
- Set up a hotfolder. Pick a folder so that every PDF dropped into it is checked automatically. This is the easiest habit for a front office to pick up.
- Introduce your print server. If you use Fiery, or want to read device status over SNMP, enter its address and test the connection. Which servers are in pilot scope today is on the device compatibility page.
- Pick one measure. In the first week of the pilot, track "how many files were caught before print". That number will be the only honest basis for your later investment decision.
Hotfolder and device connection are pilot scope
Hotfolder delivery, Fiery submission and SNMP status reads exist in the product and are being tried on real machines in the pilot, but there is no guarantee they will work on your device first time. Do this step with us — we record the outcome whether it works or not.
