Troubleshooting
Recover from PDF input, runtime, preview and imposition failures.
Read the reason shown for the current file and operation. An upload refusal, unavailable runtime, failed measurement and unsupported layout have different next actions. Keep the original and any last accepted output while investigating.
The PDF will not open
- Check that the file is non-empty, has a
.pdfextension and a compatible PDF MIME type, and contains a valid PDF header near its start. Renaming another format does not make a PDF. - Standard browser input is bounded by 200 MB and 500 pages. An operation can be more restrictive; a larger eligible server path requires its own access and consent. See limits and privacy.
- For an encrypted or structurally damaged file, use the recovery action shown. If source correction is required, re-export from the authoring application and check the new file. An error does not establish that every PDF of that version is unsupported.
- An invalid replacement leaves the current valid document intact. Once a new valid file is accepted, the old report must not be read as its report.
Runtime failure or slow analysis
A runtime error does not by itself prove PDF corruption. Update the browser, close unnecessary memory-heavy tabs and use the offered Retry action when retry is supported. A fresh attempt can still fail for the same deterministic document or settings limit.
Do not bypass an integrity refusal or assume that a refresh proves the engine is ready. Offline work needs the required verified runtime to be available. Server recovery requires the enabled path, eligible access and explicit consent; it is not a silent fallback. Use a Desktop path only when it is offered for that error. A shared engine may reject the same document there too.
Cancel the active job before starting a new one and wait for it to settle. Read coverage and unknown measurements even after analysis ends. A partial result is not proof that all pages and rules were checked. See large PDF analysis.
Blank, incomplete or blurry preview
Check the selected page, zoom and runtime message. With canvas focus, 0 fits the page and W fits width; PageUp/PageDown change pages. A missing preview is not a blank-document measurement, and a sharp preview is not a guarantee about printed output.
Missing glyphs or font placeholders require checking font embedding and the source document. Do not assume that a different viewer, a font substitute or a blurry image proves the output is correct. Use font analysis and agree the required proof with the printer.
Marks or imposition look wrong
Confirm the selected mark types, sheet size, finished size, bleed, gaps and supported layout. Read an unsupported-setting refusal and change the named setting before retrying; do not just repeat the same request or treat a preview as generated output. A layout that does not fit needs an appropriate sheet or layout change, not an arbitrary scale or gutter increase.
Booklet page padding and ordering depend on the selected mode. Check the planned front/back sequence and any inserted blanks, then inspect the actual output and its receipt. See imposition and print marks.
Source-file changes
Preserve the original. Choose effective image PPI for the placed size and job, not a universal 300 DPI reduction. Flatten transparency only if a legacy RIP requires it, using an agreed external/source workflow and then re-uploading; preserve live transparency in a supported modern workflow. Keep intentional layers, spot colours and transparency unless the agreed printer workflow requires a source change. Missing bleed artwork and missing fonts usually need source work; changing a box or relying on the RIP is not a general repair.
