Glossary

Definitions of print technology terms and concepts specific to the NowToPrint platform.

Bleed

Artwork extending beyond the trim line to allow for cutting tolerance. 3 mm is a common example; the job and printer specify the required margin. Declaring a page box does not create missing artwork.

CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black)

The four process-ink components. An RGB screen view does not guarantee identical CMYK printed colour. A difference between screen and print does not mean NowToPrint converts your PDF to CMYK. Checking a PDF does not apply a general CMYK/ICC conversion.

DPI (Dots Per Inch)

The output device's dot density. A raster image's effective PPI on the page depends on its pixel dimensions and placed size. 300 is not a mandatory pass threshold for every job; the print profile and viewing distance matter.

Imposition

Arranging pages on press sheets subject to binding, cutting and production constraints. The result depends on mode, dimensions, margins and constraints; globally minimal waste is not guaranteed.

Platform Terms

VDP (Variable Data Printing)

Changing template fields for each data row, for example on tickets or certificates. Defining the term does not grant a live template/VDP editor or unlimited batch generation.

RFQ (Request for Quote)

A record in which a buyer supplies print requirements and requests offers from eligible producers. The product need not be absent from a catalogue. A reference estimate, supplier quote and order are distinct records.

Preflight

Technical PDF analysis under a selected profile and measurement scope. Undecided checks are not zero risk, and the report alone is not production approval.

Tenant

An organisation boundary. Access depends on identity, organisation, resource ownership and current permission for the action. Organisation membership does not automatically expose every record.

Canvas

The interactive drawing surface of an editor. Access to the legacy design/canvas editor is disabled; see PDF Studio for available PDF review and preparation tools.
