Late binding: agree print conditions with your printer
How preservation, printer-specific colour handling and source-file repairs work together. Missing fonts and incomplete measurements still need action.
Late binding leaves press-specific colour conversion, transparency handling and trapping to the printer's agreed production workflow. It does not make every PDF acceptable to every RIP. Ask the printer which PDF profile, output condition and proof they require before sending a file.
What you need to check
- Resolve missing non-standard fonts in the source application and export the PDF again. Do not assume the printer can reconstruct or embed a font that was not supplied. Runtime fonts and uncertain font streams may require a render or press proof.
- Agree how RGB, transparency and named colours will be handled. Spot colours, white, varnish and die lines must match the printer's capabilities; converting them blindly can change intent.
- Read the profile and coverage recorded in the report. A missing measurement or unknown result is work to review, not evidence that the file passed.
What the PDF tools do
The tools measure supported file properties and report findings. They preserve colour spaces and named colours rather than silently converting colours, outlining fonts, flattening transparency or adding trapping. Approved page edits, bleed generation and lossless optimization are separate operations. Review the requested operation and inspect its output: a generated edge strip cannot replace artwork missing from the source.
An edit produces a separate result; keep the original. Recheck the exact output after an edit, because measurements of the source do not automatically describe the new file.
A diagnostic report, a preview and a completed workflow are not a production approval. Review remaining findings with the printer and use the required proof before production.
